Botanical Illustration tends to be exacting and scientific and
veers towards the singular beauty and the very particular characteristics of a plant which, for me, is a primary source of inspiration. Through painting and drawing using various dry and wet media (primarily watercolour and gouache), I try to capture in detail their wonderful shapes and colours.
Flower and landscape drawing and painting, I find,
is more expansive and allows a greater freedom to interperate the plants and lanscape before me, changing the chiaroscuro to soften or increase contrast, which affords me the opportunity to explore techniques and texture, using both dry and wet media to illustrate the collective beauty of plant life.
